Speaker: Brian Petyo – Student Center Marketing Manager
The Student Center provides the campus community and its guests with a variety of services for social, recreational, cultural, and educational pursuits. We are here to support the academic mission of the university with student involvement and development opportunities.
The campus is now in remote learning mode, but many community members are doing great things to keep us connected. And they are doing this from home. Our physical distance from one another doesn’t mean having to be socially, recreationally, or culturally disconnected.
The Virtual Events Minisite is provided as a service to lessen the impact of COVID-19. It is designed to promote your virtual meetings and activities. You can advertise them for free. And download the UCI Now app. UCI students have added a feature that allows anybody with a UCInetID to easily list their virtual meeting or event. The events will show up in the app and on the web.
Finally, welcome to our online home. Check back often, get involved in campus activities, and reach out to let us know how we can support your virtual meetings and events.
Promote Your Online Event for Free
Quickly share your online event with thousands of UCI Now users and website visitors.
Open the UCI Now app and click on “Virtual Events.” The app is available at no cost from Google Play and the App Store. If it’s your first time opening the Virtual Events feature, you’ll be asked to log in with your UCInetID.
Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see a list of Virtual Events shown in chronological order by date and time. Click on an event to see its details, including links to registration pages and contact information. Type keywords into the search bar, search by date or by category.
To list your Virtual Event, tap the word “new” in the top right corner. Type your organization or department name, event name, select your event’s date and time, include links to your registration page or link to your website, and enter a description of your event. You can also upload an image if you’d like, and then select a category that you think best describes your event. Click done in the top right corner to review your listing. Click “confirm” when you’re all done.
Wear something blue or create some physical distancing art. Post your photo or video using #LightUCIBlue and tag University of California, Irvine (@UCIrvine) and the Student Center (@UCIStudentCenter) on Facebook and Instagram for a chance to be featured on UCI’s social media.
The Office of Inclusive Excellence, UCI Libraries, and Division of Student Affairs invite all UCI students, faculty and staff to register for free reading links to Kindred by Octavia Butler and Afterlife by Julia Alvarez. Registered members are invited to engage with the community by participating in upcoming discussion forums and volunteering for selection readings in forthcoming programs.
The School of Humanities has launched a weekly video conversation between the school’s dean Tyrus Miller and a UCI Humanities scholar. They will discuss the cultural, creative, and philosophical impact of COVID-19. A new video publishes every Thursday through June.
Help UCI chronicle this moment in history. The pandemic has affected us all, and we want to see your experiences. Everyone (students, staff, faculty, alumni and medical center personnel) is encouraged to submit photos of your “new” daily life. We want to see it all: students learning remotely, virtual teaching (pets and children included), Zoom shots, virtual research, rounds at the medical center, PPE drives, surge tents, boxed lunches, moving home, working from home, innovators innovating and more. Your photos need not be extraordinary, they need only capture the everyday moments during the pandemic.
Let the Student Center host your organization’s or department’s Zoom webinar with a large-meeting Zoom license. Ideal for lecture or speaker formats with Q&A and polling features for up to 1,000 participants (includes hosts, panelists, and attendees).
Let us know how the Student Center can support your online meetings, activities, or events. All feedback and questions are welcome.
