History of the Student Center

1981 - 1990 (Phase I & II)

Can you image life at UC Irvine without a Student Center? That is the way it was for 16 years, until 1981 when the UCI Student Center first opened. The Student Center included a bookstore, one restaurant, a music room, a small games room, a few study areas, and two conference rooms. An addition was completed in 1982 which included another study lounge, one more food unit, and a 300-seat multipurpose room.

1990 - 2007 (Phase III)

The UCI Student Center was expanded in 1990 with a larger bookstore, additional study and lounge space, a new games room, expanded food facilities, Crystal Cove Auditorium, and more meeting rooms. The Cross-Cultural Center, as part of Phase III, opened at its present location with meeting rooms, Student Umbrella Organization offices, and study and lounge space.
